About

I’m Lauren Rice, and Soft Morning, Simple Life is where I think out loud about living at a slower, simpler pace — starting with the morning and working outward from there.

I didn’t arrive here as some serene minimalist. For most of my twenties I ran on caffeine, a phone I checked before my feet hit the floor, and a to-do list that never got shorter. What changed wasn’t a big reinvention — it was small stuff. Getting up fifteen minutes before the noise. Making coffee slowly instead of gulping it. Leaving one shelf, one hour, one Sunday deliberately unbooked. Those little edits did more for how I actually felt than any productivity system ever did.

So this site is mostly me paying attention: what genuinely makes a day feel calmer, which bits of “slow living” advice are just extra chores in a nicer font, and which small rituals are worth keeping. I try things in my own ordinary life before I write about them, and when something’s more Instagram than useful, I’ll say so.

Everything here is written by a real person — no ghost-written filler, no pretending my life is a soft-focus photo shoot. If a piece is honest and useful, it’s doing its job.
